What a place to stop for an extra day! This is the most magnificent location on the mountain, it is on a major cross-roads, here the Umbwe Route meets the Kibo South Circuit route. Turn right and in 3 hours you reach Karanga Valley and 4 hours further gets you to Barafu Hut. Straight up lies the dramatic Breach Wall and just to its left the scrambling route to the Crater: the Western Breach or Arrow Glacier Route. The Machame Route can also be used to reach the Barranco Hut by a long traverse from Shira Hut.
