The Furtwangler Glacier is a tiny remnant of the ice cap that at the beginning of 20th century almost covered the summit of the mountain. Global warming has been blamed for the glacial recession on Kilimanjaro. Recent research suggests that Kilimanjaro might lose all its permanent glaciers in the next twenty years.
