Other Campsites

There are very many campsites in and around the National Parks and Game Reserves. Special campsites in all the parks tend to have no facilities of any kind - not even running water, and are more expensive. Facilities at campsites outside of the parks are generally much better and include toilets, showers, covered dining and cooking areas, security. Some will have a bar or restaurant, internet cafe, swimming pool and some offer evening entertainment.

In game parks and reserves the following are of use: Seronera (Serengeti) campsites and Nainokanoka or Bulati in the Ngorongoro. The Seronera campsites are well-located for game viewing in the Seronera area and provide the basic facilities required for campers including covered cooking areas, showers, toilets and camping areas. There several small campsites to choose from. The water supply at the campsites has frequently been disrupted by thirsty elephants so the showers do not always work.

Outside of game parks Wasso is useful to break the journey from the Serengeti to lake Natron. If driving from Klein's Gate (Serengeti) to Lake Natron after 60km Wasso township in the Loliondo Game Conrolled Area is reached. This is a typical Maasai settlement with several small restaurants where it is possible and quite pleasant to buy refreshments. Just outside Wasso there are several campsites with green lawns and shady acacias. These offer only basic facilities and a pleasant environment.
